215-3 Who is a "Resident" of an Institution?

All Medicaid Programs

An individual living in an institution is a resident of that institution.  

The following are not considered to be a resident of that institution:  

An individual in a public institution for a temporary period pending other arrangements appropriate for the individual’s needs.

An individual living in a public educational or vocational training institution for the purpose of getting an education or vocational training.

Determine when an individual starts to be a resident of an institution based upon which type of institution the individual is residing in.  For individuals in medical institutions, see 215-4.  For individuals in non-medical institutions, see 215-6.
