What Is SSI?

SSI is a federal financial assistance program for elderly, disabled, and blind individuals.  Eligibility for SSI benefits is based on the need of the individual.

People applying for, or receiving, Medicaid assistance are not required to apply for SSI.

However, members who are age 65 or older, disabled, or blind may benefit from the SSI program if they have low income and resources. Share information with members about SSI and refer members to the Social Security office if the member wants to apply.
