No Previous Policy

Aged, Blind, Disabled and Long-term Care Programs

Gifts from a non-profit organization such as the Make-a-Wish Foundation made to a child with a life-threatening disease do not count as a resource when the payment meets the following criteria:

A.  Cash retained beyond the month the gift is made as long as the total amount excluded from resources does not exceed $2000 in a calendar year.  Count the amount of retained cash which exceeds $2000 in a calendar year as a resource.

B.  In-kind gifts that are not converted to cash do not count as a resource.

Accept the non-profit organization’s statement, or the treating physician’s statement, that the child has a life-threatening disease.  If the organization making such a gift is not a well-known non-profit organization, such as the Make-a-Wish Foundation, request copies of their non-profit tax registration or incorporation forms as evidence that it is a non-profit organization.
