531 Lump Sum Payments

Remember that most lump sums count as income in the month they are received.  (See Sec. 421)  Except as described in 531-1, when the lump sum counts as income, count any balance which remains the month after receipt as a resource.  If the lump sum does not count as income, check the excluded resource policy to see if it counts as a resource.
