Eligibility for the Supplemental Payment
A recipient of Supplemental Security Income (SSI) is eligible for a $15 state supplemental payment (SSP) when:
The recipient is a resident of a Medical Institution, and
The recipient is eligible for Utah Medicaid, and
The recipient receives the SSI payment, and
SSA limits the SSI payment to no more than $30 per month because the recipient is a resident of a Medicaid funded medical institution. The SSI payment can be less than $30 because of income that SSA counts. However, The SSI payment must be at least $1.00.
If the recipient meets these requirements, the payment amount is $15. There are no income calculations that reduce the $15 amount.
The recipient’s income, including the $15 SSP, will determine the member’s contribution to cost of care, under Medicaid rules (463-1).
Month the payment starts
The $15 SSP will start the first month the recipient meets these requirements:
The recipient is approved for Medicaid, and
The recipient is in a medical institution, and
SSA pays the SSI payment of no more than $30 per month because the recipient is in a Medicaid funded medical institution.
Medical institutions that result in the $30 limit on SSI
Month the payment stops
The recipient's eligibility for the $15 SSP ends when :
the recipient's Medicaid eligibility ends, or
the recipient leaves the medical institution, or
the SSI payment stops, or
SSA no longer limits the SSI payment to $30.

The payment process for the $15 SSP occurs at the state level based on information in eREP about nursing home members’ Medicaid eligibility.
