Residents of Utah State Hospital and other IMD's

To assist in planning for residents of Institutions for Mental Disease (IMD) preparing to be discharged, the individual or his representative may send in an application 30 days before the expected release date from the IMD.

Eligibility staff can accept and process a Medicaid application for a IMD resident sent in by the resident or the resident's representative.

The hospital needs to give the worker an expected release date.  Eligibility cannot begin before the date the person leaves the IMD.

For special policy about meeting disability criteria for someone being released from an IMD refer to 303-10.

Incarcerated Individuals in Jail/Prison or Juvenile Detention Centers

Applications received for an incarcerated individual, in a public institution will be approved and placed in a suspended status, if all factors of eligibility are met (604). Deny applications that do not meet all factors of eligibility.
