Previous Policy
A. Electronic Verification
Do not delay an eligibility decision, decrease, terminate, or deny benefits on the basis of a person's non-citizen status if the electronic verification procedures have not yet been completed.
B. Verifying Immigration Status
Follow the SAVE Verification for non-citizen Status procedure when verifying immigration status. Document in the case file all results received.
- At "Initial' request, verify the individual's status using the "A" number listed on the immigration document.
- If the information from the electronic inquiry matches the document, no further action is needed.
- If the information from the electronic inquiry does not match or information does not exist, complete a secondary verification. Do not close or deny a case based upon the information received through an initial electronic verification inquiry.
- When you cannot access the electronic database, the information about the non-citizen is not recorded in the computer file, or the information received back from the secondary verification tells you to complete another verification, complete the manual verification outlined in the procedure.
