A. Introduction
Achieving a Better Life Experience (ABLE) accounts are special accounts for individuals with disabilities that allow them to protect assets without losing eligibility for federal and state assistance such as Supplemental Security Income and Medicaid.
Utah’s ABLE program is called ABLE Utah Savings Plan (ableut.com).
o Exclude the funds held in ABLE accounts set up from Utah’s ABLE program or another state from resources. This includes deposits, interest and dividends earned and account balances.
o If the beneficiary is an SSI recipient and the account balance exceeds $100,000, the funds over $100,000 count as an asset for SSI purposes only. If SSI is suspended due to being over resources, see sec. 303-2.
