Immunizations are one of the most effective ways to prevent childhood disease and death. Childhood vaccines prevent nine infectious diseases: polio, measles, diphtheria, mumps, pertussis (whooping cough), rubella (German measles), tetanus, Hemophilus influenza type b (the most common cause of spinal meningitis) and hepatitis-B. A child needs to receive his or her primary vaccine series by age two. Immunizations are available as part of the CHEC well-child visit, or can be obtained outside the CHEC visit.
