When a match occurs, but SSA does not provide any additional information about an incarcerated person, contact the household and request verification of the current status of the person identified by the match.
When a match occurs and SSA provides information about an incarcerated person, contact the correctional facility to verify the current status of the person identified by the match.
If the person identified by the match is currently incarcerated and will be for more than 30 days, remove the individual from the medical assistance or close the case and give proper notice. (See Section 215-6 for policy regarding residents of non-medical institutions.)
See section 825 if the individual received Medicaid while incarcerated.
Document the person’s status and any actions taken. Include the dates of the incarceration and when it ends or is expected to end, if known. For someone who is still incarcerated, it may be advisable to set a person alert with the case narrative date to indicate when the person is expected to no longer be incarcerated.
