When a match occurs, but SSA does not provide any additional information about an incarcerated individual, contact the household and request verification of the current status of the person identified by the match.
When a match occurs and SSA provides information about an incarcerated individual, contact the correctional facility to verify the current status of the individual identified by the match.
See section 825 if the individual received Medicaid while incarcerated.
Document the individual’s status and any actions taken. Include the dates of the incarceration and when it ends or is expected to end, if known. For someone who is still incarcerated, it may be advisable to set a person alert with the case narrative date to indicate when the individual is expected to no longer be incarcerated.
